Membership Categories

Facilities Membership:

Facilities Member – Persons holding a minimum of a New Zealand Certificate or Diploma in a relevant discipline and employed in the field of facilities engineering or facilities management, or having been employed in this field for a minimum of five years and having an appropriate qualification.
Facilities Technician – Persons employed in the field of facilities engineering or facilities management, and holding a minimum of a trade qualification in a relevant discipline.
Facilities Trainee - Persons employed in the field of facilities engineering or facilities management, and working towards a qualification in a relevant discipline.

 

Clinical Engineering Membership:

Clinical Engineering Member – Persons holding a minimum of a New Zealand Certificate or Diploma in a relevant discipline and employed in the field of clinical engineering, or having been employed in this field for a minimum of five years and having an appropriate trade qualification.
Clinical Engineering Technician – Persons employed in the field of clinical engineering for a period of a minimum three years, and holding a minimum of a trade qualification in a relevant discipline.
Clinical Engineering Trainee – Persons employed in the field of clinical engineering, and working towards a qualification in a relevant discipline.

 

Corporate Membership:

Corporate Members can be private companies or public entities whose values and mission statements are considered to be aligned with the Institute’s pursuit of Healthcare Engineering Excellence in accordance with NZIHE objectives. Corporate
membership fees will be set by the Executive on an annual basis.

 

Associate Membership:

An Associate Member of the Institute shall be:
All persons who are Associate Members of the New Zealand Institute of Healthcare Engineering (Incorporated) and who have paid their annual subscription to the end of the current year, and who in all other respects are eligible for associate membership and;
All persons who have been approved as Associate Members by the Executive and who have an interest in the technical aspects of healthcare engineering within the health services, and who have been proposed and seconded for associate membership by full financial members. The proposer shall support the proposal with a written advocacy for the candidate.
Former members who wish to maintain interest in the industry.
Associate Members shall not have voting rights.
Any Associate Member may apply to the Executive for regrading to the full membership grade and if, in the opinion of the Executive, the associate has fulfilled the relevant criteria, shall be transferred to the full membership grade.

 

Fellow Membership:

Fellows of the Institute will have previously been a member for three years and having attained the appropriate level of qualification and experience as determined by the Executive and;
 Having submitted a 3000 word statement on their healthcare engineering experience and;
 Having been interviewed by a nominated sub-committee of the Executive regarding the material submitted and their general knowledge relating to healthcare technology and environment, will subsequently be advised of acceptance as a fellow member or otherwise in writing.

 
Life Membership:

Life Membership without payment of annual subscription shall be recognised by the Institute. Life Members shall be those members, or any other persons, who, in the opinion of the Executive, have provided outstanding and meritorious service to healthcare engineering and the Institute.
Life Membership shall be conferred only upon persons:
who are distinguished by reason of their meritorious work in the field of healthcare engineering or in a branch of learning related to healthcare engineering or medical science or;
who have rendered distinguished service to the Institute; or
whose work has assisted or is likely to assist the work of the Institute; and
who are deemed worthy by the Executive to be admitted as Life Members.Life Membership shall be conferred by a majority vote of the Executive and ratified by a vote at an Annual General Meeting. Life Members so elected shall have the privilege of attending all meetings of the Institute and taking part in all discussions at such meetings and shall maintain their voting rights.

 

Retired Membership:

Members who by reason of age, ill health or other proper causes, retire from their position may accept Retired Membership without payment of annual subscription. Retired Members shall have the privilege of attending all meetings of the Institute and taking part in all discussions at such meetings and shall maintain their voting rights.

 

Honorary Membership:

Honorary Membership without payment of annual subscription shall be recognised by the Institute, and members so admitted shall be nominated and elected at an Annual General Meeting. Honorary Members so elected shall have the privilege of attending all meetings of the Institute and taking part in all discussions at such meetings but shall not have any voting rights. Honorary Membership shall apply for as long as the circumstances giving rise to that Honorary Membership continue to apply.
